随着治疗方式的进步，非小细胞肺癌(Non-small cell lung cancer, NSCLC)患者存活时间也随之增长，然而这也使癌细胞转移至脑部机率增加，据统计，非小细胞肺癌患者约有20〜40%会产生癌症脑转移。然而，目前尚未有癌症脑转移相关的分子标志资料库，而发表于《Lung Cancer》的最新文章认为肺癌患者的EGFR(Epidermal growth factor receptor)突变可能与脑转移有关。试验中，以聚合酶连锁反应(Polymerase chain reaction, PCR)将543位患者依EGFR突变与否分为两组，其中121位为EGFR突变患者，其余422位为无突变患者。试验结果显示，EGFR突变患者累积发生脑转移机率为39.2%远高于无突变患者的28.2%，而年龄小于66岁患者也较易发生脑转移，研究人员进一步统计年龄小于66岁的EGFR突变患者发现有高达59.4%发生脑转移，根据上述证据，研究人员认为年龄及EGFR突变与否是影响脑转移的重要因素。研究刊登在《Lung Cancer》的网页
