《Am. J. Respir. Crit. Care Med.》刊登一项美国纽约西奈山伊坎医学院( Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai)的研究，关于车辆造成的空气污染对孩童罹患气喘的关系，纪录孩童1-7岁期间暴露在空气污染环境的程度，并于7岁的时候判别诊断孩童是否为气喘儿，分析该项空气污染对造成孩童气喘的长期影响。结果发现: 出生的时候就暴露在高度空气污染环境的孩童，出现气喘征状的喘鸣声比例比一般孩童高出64%，在1岁和2岁的时候暴露在空气污染环究的孩童，出现喘鸣声的比例也比较高，从出生一直到7岁都暴露在高污染环境的孩童，则被认为气喘风险比都没有在空气污染环境孩童高出71%，显示车辆造成的空气污染对孩童呼吸道健康有很大影响，1-7岁持续暴露在污染环境还会大大提高罹患气喘机率。
